Interest in solar program shining brightly
Associated Press - September 24, 2007 11:35 AM ET
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Demand is high for a state grant that covers up to $3,000 of the cost of installing solar panels at a home.
July 1 was the most recent deadline for 25 grants through the Wyoming Business Council. By 2 a.m. on that date, the council had already received applications for 25 grants.
The grants cover half the cost of installing a residential photovoltaic system, up to $3,000.
Some states like Pennsylvania require homes to be connected to the grid to qualify for photovoltaic grants. But that's not a requirement in Wyoming.
Business Council officials point out that solar panels can be the lowest-cost option for powering homes that are located far away from power lines.
